Tattoo with the image of the kraken symbolizes intelligence, developed intuition and strength. The owner of such a tattoo is undoubtedly a strong-willed person.

A brief excursus to history

So it was described in the distant 1555 by Olaf Magnus. And the first mention of this monster dates back to the twelfth century AD. In these legends, the kraken is spoken of as a creature so enormous that sometimes naive sailors mistake it for an island. In 1752 Bishop Bargen notes: "Undoubtedly the largest sea monster in the world" - and believes that its width can reach a mile and a half (2.5 km).

The gradation of the kraken's appearance in various sources is fascinating. So, since the eighteenth century, it is represented by an octopus or squid, but a smaller size (only twice the size of an ordinary schooner).

But there remained some sensible sailors who regarded the kraken as a common sailor's legend. Although they did not deny that giant squids at least three times "attacked" small ships, dying in an unequal battle under the propellers of the ship.

However, there are quite plausible legends proving the undeniable existence of the giant cephalopod mollusk. Nineteenth century, Newfindle, three fishermen spotted an enormous carcass washed ashore early in the morning. The dead animal resembled a giant octopus. There are many stories, allegedly testifying to the brave sailors who fought the kraken to the death; they received the spoils of war in the form of huge tentacles (according to some sources, the tentacles reached six meters in length).

Today, the scientific community considers the legend of the huge octopus to be just a myth of bored sailors. There is not a single credible proof of the kraken's existence, but fans of conspiracy theories will always find loopholes.

A little about the animal

Octopuses are considered to be true superheroes among invertebrates. Extreme intelligence, the ability to regrow lost limbs, to be as capacious as possible and to crawl through any crevices - and this is not all their abilities.

A testament to their intelligence is the octopus's habit of searching for armor--coconut halves or shells--where they can hide in case of danger. They are also trainable, have good memory and can recognize their hosts. These invertebrates can cast off their tentacles as bait for a predator catching up with them.

Octopuses are talented imitators. They can both change the color of their skin to match their surroundings and imitate the behavior of other animals, thus obtaining food.

Kraken as a cultural phenomenon

Many peoples living near the depths of the sea thought the kraken was a sea deity, the patron saint of the sea, the king of all the sea. They worshipped him and feared him at the same time.

They associated the sea with the unknown, immense and invincible, that is, with death. They surrendered their dead to the sea, and so they worshipped the kraken, which was the personification of the afterlife, its cephalopod guardian.

The kraken is a mystical character with a certain magical power, so many who believe in signs, apply the kraken as a protective amulet, and consider it a store of life mana. Also, this tattoo is welcomed by lovers of the sea or those whose lives are directly related to it.
